A Foreigners' War, Their Own Memory
Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War and Their Fates
In the Enemy’s Uniform
Czechoslovaks, Service in the Wehrmacht, and a Return to Their Own Ranks
A new book by Zdenko Maršálek, Jiří Neminář, and Milan Sovilj explores the lives of people from occupied territories who served in the German army. While some remained in German uniform until the end of the war, others tried to avoid service, surrendered, or even enlisted in exile units from prisoner of war camps. These complex and often ambivalent life stories also involved a surprisingly large number of inhabitants of the Czech lands.
